In this role, you'll:

 

Join the Operations Planning branch of the Coordinator-General division, that is responsible for integrated multi-modal transport planning and operational improvements for changes to the traffic and public transport system associated with infrastructure delivery, planned changes to networks and services as well as a wide range of short-term trip generating activities including major events, temporary transport plans.

 

Notably in 2023, we have coordinated, planned and delivered around 400 events and provided transport options to 9 million event attendees. Events include, the International Cricket series, A-League fixtures, Anzac Day, Royal Easter Show, high profile concerts, Mardi Gras Parade, VIVID, and the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026.

 

Reporting to the Executive Director Operational Planning and supported by a strong cohesive and collaborative team, you will lead the group responsible for the development of integrated multi-modal transport management plans and strategies for major events and festivals in NSW, to deliver appropriate transport options for customers attending events while minimising the impact of such events on non-event transport customers.

 

You will develop invaluable experience and exposure across the entire network of transport operations in Sydney, building strong relationships and partnerships across a diverse stakeholder base spanning public and commercial sector participants.

 

Some of your accountabilities will be to:

 

  • Lead the systems, processes and people conducting planning for real-time management of major events and festivals in NSW.
  • Define the transport principles and desired outcomes for all major events and festivals in NSW in consultation with event proponents, NSW Police and other stakeholders and develop systems and tools that track and report on performance against plans.
  • Put in place systems that ensure transport planning for major events and festivals is integrated with all other activities within NSW that have the potential to impact on customer journeys.
  • Lead the development of major event inputs to the Operations Planning Branch Business Plan.
  • Lead and influence key decisions related to transport outcomes within the NSW event industry, by developing strong relationships with event managers, key NSW Government agencies including Department of Premier and Cabinet, Destination NSW and NSW Police.
  • Manage the development of integrated multi-modal transport plans that support the delivery of events and festivals in NSW.

 

This is a full-time ongoing Transport Senior Service Executive TSSE1A level role offering an attractive remuneration package. NOTE interviews will be scheduled on the week of 13 January 2025.

About You

 

  • You have a dynamic pragmatic approach and are interested in live operational strategic planning involving highly visible unique events that stand out on a global stage.
  • You have experience in dealing with event stakeholders, including organisers and promoters in a commercial environment.
  • You will bring demonstrated experience and achievement in managing transport to support major events, especially those involving multiple transport elements for significant crowd sizes.
  • You will be highly customer focused, adaptable and willing to work outside standard business hours to ensure customer and stakeholder outcomes are realised.
  • Tertiary qualifications in traffic engineering and transport management or related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • You have exceptional stakeholder engagement and management skills and proven experience negotiating and working with a diverse mix of commercial and Government stakeholders to ensure the events and festivals industries are supported.
  • You are a passionate and people-focused leader, highly collaborative and inclusive and experienced leading and inspiring diverse teams in complex and dynamic environments and championing innovative ways of working.
  • You have a current motor vehicle driver’s license and are willing to work out of business hours and be contactable 24/7 as required.
