About the Team


Maintenance Operations is one of seven divisions within the Engineering and Maintenance directorate. Our work is vital to keeping Sydney moving as we deliver routine maintenance on the railway civil, signal, electrical and control system assets on the metropolitan passenger network; and co-ordinate infrastructure incident response.


The Opportunity


The primary focus of the Team Leader role is planning and allocation of work packages to the Track & Structures frontline team, coupled with tracking completed work and ensuring the quality of maintenance has been completed to agreed standards. In addition, they provide frontline technical support, technical competency mentoring and development and assisting the Team Manager in driving KPI’s and change initiatives.

We are seeking up and coming managers/leaders with considerable operational experience in planning and managing maintenance and/or construction of Track & Structures Assets in a safety critical environment coupled with good asset management knowledge, quality assurance, commercial astuteness and decision-making skills.


What will you be involved in?


  • Develop plans and schedules for discipline Work Groups to deliver routine and corrective maintenance work and inspections to ensure the work is completed on time and to quality standards; Work in conjunction with the planning team in the development of maintenance production plans and rosters with the goal of meeting safely production targets and KPI’s
  • Produce work schedules and related task documentation for routine and corrective maintenance tasks and other tasks as required; In conjunction with the Work Group Leaders arrange work groups daily, based on task requirements ensuring each employee has the required skills and competencies
  • Ensure maintenance is carried out in a manner that meets Technical Maintenance Plan (TMP) and Infrastructure Engineering Standards requirements by conducting quality inspections and audits of closed work orders
  • Provide frontline technical and safety advice and support to the Work Groups, partaking of your knowledge for the development of the team; Coordinate defect management including escalating to Team Manager any potential high-risk issues

About You


You will be assessed and competent to level 3.1 or above with a significant amount of experience in the maintenance of Rail Networks. You will hold a Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure or the equivalent experience.

It would be desirable if you hold a PO2 or be willing to obtain within 6 months.


You will also have demonstrated leading or management experience within rail track infrastructure. Leadership, mentoring, and work management are key in this role.


Salary and benefits


The salary for this position is AVP 4.4 $ 94,301 base plus Super, Allowances, Overtime.
