Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions. We work with several government agencies to coordinate metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail, and maritime services, always keeping the safety and comfort of our customers at the heart of what we do.

About Us

The Transport Services Planning Unit plans and develops public transport service improvements for customers and communities across Regional and Outer Metropolitan NSW.

Our mission is to improve Regional and Outer Metropolitan customer journeys through customer focussed multi-modal service planning that connects people to places.

Our key principles mean we’re outcomes focused, customer led, evidence based, clear and accountable and dynamic in our approach for continuous improvement.

The Opportunity

Transport Services Planning considers customer values and outcomes, travel patterns, patronage, land use, policy, infrastructure and operational requirements for the planning of Public Transport Services as part of an Integrated Transport Network.

As a Senior Transport Planner – 16 Cities you will work in a team that develops and designs bus service operating plans that balance customer and operational requirements for the 16 Cities Bus Service Improvement Program.

Your role will be to lead the development of integrated service plans for buses in regional NSW cities, which will inform prioritised service and infrastructure improvements.  The position provides transport planning advice and expertise to support the delivery of the 16 Cities program, whilst also maintaining alignment with TfNSW strategy and NSW government objectives.

About you

The position will focus on public transport planning, particularly bus (and on-demand) services, so you will need to have demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of the sector. Demonstrated interest and/or understanding of the nuances of planning in areas outside of Sydney would be valued.

Critical thinking is key for the role. The role requires high level problem-solving ability, attention-to-detail, creativity, and perseverance. You will have the ability to analyse data, demographics and local place-based strategies to develop customer-focussed networks. It would be desirable to have an operational understanding of bus service (or any mode of public transport) timetable planning.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. You will need to be able to build rapport and develop strong stakeholder relations across multiple internal and external sources. You will need to leverage these relationships to seek the appropriate advice and information required to inform your decisions, as well as negotiate outcomes and overcome challenges.

The role supports the 16 Cities program, as well as maintaining a strong link with a variety of other program work in Regional NSW. We have offices at a number of locations across NSW and encourage people regionally based in New South Wales to apply as we have flexible working arrangements available.

This is a Temporary Fixed Term role until 30/6/2023
