The opportunity


The Executive Director Public Transport Contracts and Partnerships is a critical leadership role reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, Greater Sydney.


You will provide strategic leadership and direction to the commercial functions supporting the provision of outsourced transport services, contributing to the overall customer experience in providing an integrated, safe, reliable, customer-focused and efficient service that meets the diverse and evolving transport needs of customers in Greater Sydney.


As the Asset Steward for public transport assets contracts in Greater Sydney, you will manage commercial relationships and partnerships with all outsourced public transport providers (Bus, Ferry and Light Rail) to deliver customer and network outcomes.


We are seeking a strategic executive leader with exceptional communication and stakeholder relationship skills to lead the commercial management and service delivery of public transport services, with a strong focus on improving service offerings and performance for customers through innovation, technology and partnering with our transport operators.


What you will be involved in:


  • Leading the Public Transport Contracts and Partnerships function in the Greater Sydney Operations Branch and driving business transformation and cultural change across the team and ways of working

  • Serving as the go-to-expert in the strategic management of Greater Sydney public transport contracts, including commercial and relationship management of multi-modal outsourced contracts and other commercial relationships

  • Delivering robust, effective and efficient contract management frameworks and practices which ensure all outsourced services provide value for money and comply with appropriate policies, practices and procedures within government and legislative requirements

  • Driving day to day performance of integrated transport services through the lifecycle of contracts and working closely with Customer Journey Planning and Customer Journey Management teams, activating levers to deliver improved customer and network outcomes

  • Providing stewardship across public transport assets, working in collaboration with Planning & Programs and Asset Management teams to co-ordinate and plan all assure maintenance activities

  • Developing and managing relevant strategies, business plans, budgets and risk management plans ensuring consistency with the Greater Sydney and TfNSW corporate plans

  • Prioritising the safety and wellbeing of our people and customers and teams including our delivery partners

  • Demonstrating the Transport Connected Leadership dimensions by modelling collegiate and collaborative behaviours to achieve the greater good of our communities and inspiring a diverse workforce by creating an environment where our people can thrive and be supported

About you


You will be a senior leader with extensive experience in complex commercial contract management in public transport, spanning multiple modes and contract models.


You will bring sound knowledge and understanding of the business levers required to deliver robust commercial and operational improvements impacting service delivery and customer experience.


You will possess exceptional stakeholder management skills and proven experience managing a diverse group of commercial contract supplier relationships and partnerships. You will bring a strong focus on client service excellence and the end customer, achieving business results thorough your ability to effectively influence across a broad arena of stakeholders. 


You will bring innovative thinking and a proactive approach to addressing emerging public transport challenges and opportunities through the advancement of technology, continuous improvement and a best practice approach to commercial contract management.


Your ability to develop and maintain long-term strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to effectively coordinate on multi-modal public transport contracts and manage critical relationships across TfNSW is essential for success in this role.


As a highly regarded people-focused leader, you will have a track record of success in driving performance through periods of transformation and change and will be highly adept in navigating effectively through government processes to deliver successful commercial and customer outcomes.
