The opportunity


Our Engineering and Maintenance directorate manages a $1.5 billion annual maintenance program on behalf of Sydney Trains and NSW Trains – delivering a safe, reliable passenger fleet and metropolitan rail network, to meet growing customer demand and keep Sydney moving.


Right now, we have an opportunity for an Engineering Operator to join us in our Network Maintenance team in the Commercial and Supply Chain Division (C&SC). Reporting to the Supervisor (Mechanical) Rail Equipment Centre, you will be responsible for:


  • Providing a wide range of engineering based mechanical fitting with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining skills and competencies to achieve project completion within deadlines to standard, budget, ensuring customer satisfaction and achievement of Rail Equipment Centre targets.




What you will be involved in 


  • Executing safety responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities consistent with Sydney Trains safety management system requirements.
  • Working within a production environment, to produce mechanical components and associated equipment for the Rail Equipment Centre Business.
  • Working safely and efficiently as part of a team and/or with minimal supervision, to enable the work/project to be completed within time, quality, and cost constraints.




About you 


You will be a qualified mechanical fitter with at least 3 years’ experience in a mechanical manufacturing environment.


You will have extensive experience in programming and running CNC (Computer Numerical Machine) machines and be able to read and interpret engineering workshop drawings. Able to use all workshop machines such as manual Lathe, manual milling, radial drilling etc.


This is a hands-on role, and you will have practical experience in processing raw materials by marking out, cutting, drilling, tapping, linishing, grinding, and so on.  A forklift licence is advantageous.


You will also have effective communication skills and be flexible as some weekends may be required.

Salary and benefits


The salary for this position is COM1.2 ($1,044 - $1,508.50) per week plus superannuation and leave loading.
