Works Assistant - Bowenfels

In this role, you'll:

Work within the Road Maintenance & Resilience Central West Construction team across the Central West ensuring project specifications and work process requirements for civil works are followed and implemented in accordance with quality and safety standards. Part of this role will be working within the team that is delivering a component of the $181 million Towards Zero Safer Roads Program to reduce road trauma on regional roads.

The position will be based out of Bowenfels or Orange with occasional work away from home based on project requirements.

The Works Assistant Grade 3 - PQR will also be responsible for: 

• Guiding, supporting, and influencing field-based teams to perform roles and works to WHS, traffic, environmental and quality standards, including the accurate documenting of works checks and records.
• Verifying that work activities are completed to quality specifications by following established procedures, performing measurements to confirm quality both during and on completion of work, comparing results to engineering plans and contract requirements, and completing required records. This will involve safety, environmental and quality checks, audits, asset inspections, competency assessments and staff/contractor inductions.
• Guiding team members, leading the work output of a small unit as required, to develop capability, capacity, compliance, and process improvement.
• Understanding and maintaining knowledge of WHS legislation, policies, and procedures, assessing, and controlling risks, records management, and industry requirements to minimise risk and model safe work behaviour.

We take the WH&S and the management of fatigue of our employees seriously therefore to be successful in this role it is a requirement that you must reside within 100 km to the Bowenfels Works Depot or the Orange Works Depot.

About you:

You have proven experience operating within a civil construction environment or industry equivalent and will meet the essential criteria, including:

• NSW Industry White Card
• Current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills in MS Office Suite

Traffic Control (Implement Traffic Control / Prepare Work Zone) tickets is preferred but not an essential requirement.

Experience in the operation of general construction plant is preferred.

You have a sound understanding of road maintenance and construction and associated infrastructure, are process focused and is someone who enjoys working flexibly across multi-faceted tasks. You have experience in completing Inspection Test Plans and other relevant quality assurance conformance processes.

You are passionate about quality assurance, attention to detail, and understand the importance it has to the final product.

Any experience in WHS and/or Quality Systems will be highly regarded.
