About the team 

The Risk Function is part of the Safety Environment, Quality & Risk (SEQR) branch which has responsibility to support Sydney Trains to effectively manage safety, environment, quality and business and operational risk management.

The Risk function provides the second line strategic support for risk management across Sydney Trains.  As the second line in the Three Lines of Defence risk management approach, The Risk function partners with the first line to provide advisory and assurance services to foster an organisational culture of risk-based decision making .


You will be part of a small, cohesive and highly motivated team working in a fast paced environment.


The opportunity 

We currently have an opening for  permanent full time opportunities to join the SEQR team .The primary purpose of the role is to provide control assurance advisory services and partner with the first line business to ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of the control environment in the context of the business risk profile.

  • Partner with the business to develop the branch assurance plan, to foster an appreciation of the importance of risk management r, and to drive continuous improvement leading to better business results.
  • Guide and support the business in the management of enterprise risk and the design and implementation of controls for all new and changing processes and operations to enable improved risk outcomes, and facilitate the achievement of compliance.
  • Provide learning support across the broader SEQR team to facilitate an uplift in risk assessment, mitigation and assurance capabilities across the branch

About you 

The successful candidate will be proactive and self-driven with planning and managing different stakeholders. You thrive in complex operational environments where attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities is crucial.

Resourceful and flexible in your approach to problem solving, you are a highly collaborative worker with excellent communication (written and oral) and the ability to consult, liaise and share information with a wide range of stakeholders at different levels within the organisation.

You also need to be confident and capable with sourcing information and material for a broad range of stakeholders and managing a team.

Essential Requirements 


  • Experience in assurance or audit roles
  • Extensive knowledge of risk management and assurance frameworks
  • Experience in the implementation of assurance testing methodology
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as risk management or safety management or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience.


Salary and benefits


The salary for this position is RC Grade 6 Grade ($127,559 – $141,442) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
