In this role, you’ll:
Combine hands-on, paid work with structured training as you earn a nationally recognised qualification in your chosen trade.
No experience? No problem. Our four-year apprenticeship program is designed to teach you everything you need to succeed.
We’re currently recruiting apprentices in the following trade disciplines:
- Cable Jointer – You’ll be trained to carry out maintenance, emergency repair and construction of our electrical cable network to ensure a safe and reliable network for our customers.
- Heavy Plant (Plant Mechanic) – You’ll be trained to carry out various plant maintenance activities on mobile and stationary plant equipment. You’ll obtain high risk work licences to operate this machinery.
- Fleet – Electrical (Rail Maintainer) – You’ll be trained to diagnose electrical faults and complete repairs and carry out routine scheduled maintenance of our trains.
- Fleet – Mechanical (Rail Maintainer) – You’ll be trained to diagnose mechanical faults and complete repairs and carry out routine scheduled maintenance of our trains.
- Rail Traction (Overhead Power Lines) – You’ll be trained to carry out routine maintenance and construction of the electrical 1500Vdc and high and low voltage aerial lines. You need to feel at home at heights and driving large vehicles and plant.
- Signal Electrical – You’ll be trained to carry out regular routine maintenance and repairs, reconstruction, and installation of signals asset. You’ll assist our Signalling Teams to deliver a range of construction, engineering, and maintenance services.
- Signal Fitter – You’ll be trained to carry out the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical signalling equipment.
- Substations – You’ll be trained to install and maintain electrical equipment in and around our high voltage rail substations.
- Telecommunications (Operational Technology) – You’ll learn to install, maintain, and repair critical communication and control systems
- Auto Electrical – You’ll specialise in the electrical wiring of heavy plant machinery used across the rail network.
As our network runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, you may work within a 24-hour rotating roster which may sometimes include early mornings, evenings, and weekends. You may also be required to travel and stay at different locations overnight as our work sites extend across the Sydney Metropolitan area and areas including Hamilton, Lithgow, Wollongong, and Bomaderry/Nowra.
