About us

Transport for NSW keeps our State moving by providing safe, integrated and efficient transport systems. We put our customers at the centre of everything we do – and we do a lot. We connect people, communities and industry and manage how they use our road, rail and maritime networks and services, and even active modes like walking and cycling. The work we do connects the journeys you take every day.

We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history. We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.

That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas right across NSW – you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

About the team

The Infrastructure and Place (I&P) division is in the process of delivering an ambitious and once-in-a generation $multi-billion program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come.

The M6 Stage 1 Project will provide a new twin tunnel motorway connection between the M8Motorway at Arncliffe and President Avenue at Kogarah. The project will be the first stage in completing the missing link from southern Sydney to the Sydney motorway network, making journeys easier, faster and safer. It will allow users to bypass up to 23 sets of traffic lights on the Princes Highway between St Peters and Kogarah and remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads and help return local streets to local communities.

Additional benefits to the community, to name a few, will include the provision of new shared cycle and pedestrian pathways, new intersection at President Avenue including the widening and raising of President Avenue at this location, new service utilities including a permanent power supply line, and adjustments to local roads in the project area.

The opportunity

This is a career defining opportunity to be part of a historic $multi-billion flagship infrastructure project being rolled out across Sydney in a unique delivery model. It has been a very long time having a motorway being fully delivered, owned and operated by NSW Government with a lump sum D&C contract awarded to CGU alliance.

As Delivery Director, you will be expected to:

  • Have a direct relationship with the Design and Construct Contractor whilst providing guidance to work streams, identify issues and strategies to formulate appropriate responses to problem solving. You will oversee a large construction delivery team across site surveillance, construction planning, project engineers, project managers and construction managers.
  • Be responsible for the resolution of complex project issues and challenges with internal Transport for NSW branches and various key Government agencies as applicable and for leading high-level consultations and negotiations to ensure that the Project program and budget are maintained.
  • Work closely with the Project Director and the Senior Leadership Team to manage competing pressures between project scope, budget, performance, risk, cost, program and a zero-harm safety culture, while meeting stakeholder expectations and longer-term community needs in an environment of intense public scrutiny.
  • Ensure and promote safety and safe working via compliance with the System Requirement, Safety Responsibilities, Authorities and Accountabilities within the Safety Management System.
