The opportunity


We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Design Interface Manager (Tunnelling) to join our Western Harbour Tunnel team.  This role provides strategic technical advice and management to internal clients and external design organisations across the project in order to deliver an effective cost-efficient design. It enables the effective management of risk in the delivery of projects by anticipating and resolving difficult and complex design problems.


In this role, you will be responsible for:


  • Planning, organising and leading design activities for TfNSW, ensuring management of technical risk in design and in the delivery of effective and cost-efficient transport infrastructure projects by providing design and engineering advice to the Project Office, and by offering technical leadership to project teams and external design service providers.


  • Provide design leadership throughout the procurement and delivery phase of the project, supervising contractors to ensure that design is delivered on time and to specification, managing all aspects of the design throughout the project phases, anticipating the impact of any changes and ensuring continued compliance with policies, standards, technical directions, guidelines, procedures and agreed requirements.


  • Lead the management of design reviews, ensuring the consistent application of standards and technical excellence and provide highest level technical advice for improved civil/tunnel/M&E design solutions.


  • Provide high level technical leadership and advice to the external design service providers and project teams and provide project coordination, contract management advice, managing and deploying resources and developing improved civil/tunnel/M&E design solutions.


  • Develop collaborative arrangements and partnerships to share and increase skill sets in design services with private sector design consultants, to enable the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective design which meet TfNSW requirements.


  • Role model, promote and actively demonstrate the five ways of leading behaviours to deliver organisational outcomes for our customers, our people and communities for the Greater Good

About you


You are a tertiary qualified construction project or design delivery leader looking for an opportunity to broaden your knowledge of the infrastructure delivery process and assist in delivering State changing projects.


Relevant design leadership experience in Civil, Tunnelling, Marine and M&E construction on major tunnel projects is a prerequisite.


You have extensive transport project development and delivery experience with proven experience in the development and implementation of infrastructure projects including monitoring, evaluating, managing, and reporting on complex projects.
