The opportunity

As the Community & Customer Engagement Manager you will manage and oversees community engagement plans and deliver a range of internal and external strategic communication and stakeholder engagement services supporting a very busy precinct on a varied range of major projects and BAU work.


Some key responsibilities of the role include:


  • Manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of communication and stakeholder engagement strategies, activities, and procedures, including for contentious or publicly sensitive projects, to manage community information and engagement needs on infrastructure projects and programs.
  • Lead the team to devise, deliver and evaluate the effectiveness of a range of activities to provide opportunities for community and stakeholder involvement including events, workshops, materials, internal communication, online and digital initiatives, issues management and liaison with the media unit.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic community education and information campaigns for the Division including identifying proactive and sourcing of external media opportunities.
  • Lead and collaborated with communication and stakeholder engagement managers and staff to develop and manage communication activities to time, cost, and budget.
  • Provide senior advice and support on community and stakeholder risks, issues, opportunities, and management strategies.


About you


The role interacts with numerous stakeholders, so it is crucial that you can engage with a diverse audience and deal with people at all levels. You will need to be able to build rapport and develop strong relations across multiple internal and external sources. You will need to leverage these relationships to seek the appropriate advice and information required to inform your decisions, as well as negotiate outcomes and overcome challenges.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Proven ability to proactively identify, manage and resolve conflict and issues on complex, high profile projects while working in a politically sensitive environment is essential.


You will monitor and review project performance and be ready to address common program and project risks, highlight achievements and identify areas of improvement and deficiencies together with actions to address these.


The role currently has a number of direct reports and you will need to be able to work collaboratively with your team to inspire direction, mentoring them to develop skills and competencies across the business to become champions of good customer service and communication. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in communication, engagement, media, or public relations are required.


The position will be based in the Parkes region. Travel will be required on occasions to meet business deliverables. Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are available and encouraged.

Salary and Benefits


The salary for this position is USS10 ($128,887 - $140,851) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
