Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions. We work with several government agencies to coordinate metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail, and maritime services, always keeping the safety and comfort of our customers at the heart of what we do.
The Division
The Regional and Outer Metropolitan division is focused on understanding the particular needs of regional communities across NSW and delivering customer-centred integrated transport services and infrastructure.
The opportunity
As the Community & Customer Engagement Officer you assist in the delivery of the full range of internal and external strategic communication and stakeholder engagement services within a designated region of Division. This role will also provide services across community consultation, communications and engagement strategies, customer information and issues management.
Some key responsibilities of the role include:
- Support in the development, implementation, and evaluation of communication and stakeholder engagement strategies and plans to assist in the effective management of community information and engagement needs on Transport for NSW (TfNSW) infrastructure projects and programs.
- Coordinate and provide support in the delivery of events, workshops, and community consultation activities to maximise community engagement outcomes and feedback including customer information; community consultation; internal communication; issues management and liaison with the media unit.
- Contribute to the implementation of a program of building community awareness by developing narrative content across all communications channels and identifying ways to assist the community participate in TfNSW projects.
- Provide advice and participate in, TfNSW and NSW Government communities of practice to improve and enhance the delivery of Transport for NSW communication services to the community.
- Build and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including specific subject or topic associations and community groups, to promote open communications and facilitate delivery of best practice communication and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
- Complete tasks as directed by your manager to ensure the effective delivery of communication and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Work within a matrix management structure where support services are embedded within program office delivery teams.

About you
The role interacts with numerous stakeholders, so it is crucial that you can engage with a diverse audience and deal with people at all levels. You will need to be able to build rapport and develop strong relations across multiple internal and external sources. You will need to leverage these relationships to seek the appropriate advice and information required to inform your decisions, as well as negotiate outcomes and overcome challenges.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. You will have experience in the development and implementation of innovative communications and proven ability to proactively identify, manage and resolve conflict and issues on complex, high profile projects while working in a politically sensitive environment is essential.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in communication, engagement, media, or public relations are required.
The role supports a variety of work in the West Region of NSW. We have offices at a number of locations in the area and encourage people based in the Central West or Central Tablelands regions of Parkes, Orange, Lithgow and the surrounding areas to apply as we have flexible working arrangements available.

Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is USS 8 ($104,181 to $111,796) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
