About the team


The Infrastructure and Place (IP) division is in the process of delivering an ambitious and once-in-a generation multi-billion program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built.  Our work can entail project management and assurance, commercial management, engineering and technical advisory and precinct renewal and place making.



The opportunity


The Technical Officer provides technical and policy advice and research to provide optimal support to the technical innovation and knowledge team in the development and delivery of Technical Services outcomes.


The role is also required to work closely across Technical Services Branch and support management with the engagement of other Transport Agency divisions and industry partners to ensure that innovative and cost-effective solutions are delivered, enhancing the Agency’s reputation as technical leaders.


Key accountabilities


  • Assist with the identification and evaluation of innovations and trends in multi-modal engineering and technology (nationally and internationally) and engage with stakeholders to implement improvements across the Transport Agency and industry.
  • Assist with the review of existing and the development of new technical standards, guidelines, and other policies to drive best practice technical knowledge management and innovations, as required
  • Participate in the review of selected products and ensure products are thoughtfully assessed in an efficient and timely manner while having sensitivity to the commercial operating environment of vendors and awareness of the need to avoid any political implications
  • Research and identify innovation opportunities in the market place and in other jurisdictions that could be applied to the operating environment to improve engineering and technical knowledge management outcomes.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand and respond to their business needs and provide technical advice on technical standards, guidelines and policy.

About you


  • Working independently to meet project scope, deadlines and budgets in line with agreed quality standards and milestones.
  • Understanding the needs of a wide range of end-user stakeholders, linking those needs to standards and policy, potential innovation and technology solutions and contributing to the evaluation and approval of the solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Keeping across current and emerging best practice, changes in legislation, and technology that affect multi-modal engineering disciplines and developing and implementing relevant policy and standards to meet these challenges.



Salary and Benefits
