About the team


The role sits within the Sydney Metro Commercial Corporate team, responsible for the direction and management of commercial corporate work streams; commercial governance, commercial controls and supplier relationship management to drive value for money, efficiency, consistency and implementation of the Construction Leadership Group’s Ten Point Plan throughout Sydney Metro's commercial lifecycle.


The opportunity


The primary purpose of the role is to direct commercial procurement and contract activities to ensure the effective management of professional services contracts (PSC’s) associated both with Sydney Metro’s business and delivery of the projects.  The role promotes a whole-of-project commercial perspective, integrating the commercial position of the high value, complex and portfolio wide professional service procurement and contract management


Sydney Metro requires the Commercial Director position to work alongside Sydney Metro’s Professional Services Procurement & Contract Management team to provide portfolio wide commercial direction for the procurement and contract management for strategic portfolio PSC contracts (spend circa $500m)


      1. Take a strategic, best for projects and best for portfolio approach to the contract management of strategic portfolio PSC contracts.
      2. Ensure Sydney Metro is effectively and efficiently meeting its obligations and commitments within these PSC contracts.
      3. Champion value for money, consistency, standardisation and optimisation of commercial and contract management across these strategic portfolio contracts and professional services contracts more broadly.
      4. Provide advice, input and oversight to the procurement planning, procurement process and commercial model being proposed for new portfolio strategic high value PSC contracts within Sydney Metro.
      5. Provide commercial direction and management to future strategic and portfolio PSC contracts as required.
      6. Where appropriate and feasible in consultation with business owners identify, progress and secure cost savings and efficiencies within these contracts.
      7. Provide direction to the contract management and administration team for these contracts, specifically around regular contract management activities – contract change, payment, contract performance, insurances, contract communications and administration.
      8. Ensure compliance with NSW Government, Transport for NSW and Sydney Metro’s Commercial Management Framework, delegations, policy, process procedure and regulations.
      9. Ensure cross functional alignment for commercial procurement and contract management activities with these strategic/portfolio PSC’s specifically with key functions and divisions related to commercial activities (i.e. Finance, HR, and PMO)
      10. Work closely with the business stakeholders and accountable functional, divisional or project leads for these strategic/ portfolio PSC contracts ensuring objectives and requirements are being delivered in accordance with expectations, contract and business requirements

About you


You are a tertiary qualified in procurement, contract management or commercial management professional looking for an opportunity to apply your experiences to build and deliver world class metro lines:

  • You have experience in procurement and contract operations across a large, matrixed organisation.
  • You understand the current professional services procurement and contracting commercial landscape well and bring experience communicating best practice and risk to a large organisation.
  • You have strong experience building a team and growing team maturity and capability.
  • You have demonstrated experience in business engagement.
  • You have a strong track record leading continuous improvement activities.
  • You are experienced working in an unstructured environment and developing structure for a government organisation.
