About the team


Sydney Metro, a NSW Government statutory authority has been tasked with developing and delivering metro railways, and managing their operations. Sydney Metro also leads the development of vibrant station precincts to meet customer and community needs, transforming the way Sydney travels and helping shape the future of Australia’s largest city.



The opportunity


Sydney Metro is currently recruiting for two Delivery Directors.


  1. Sydney Metro City and Southwest Project – TSOM package.


The TSOM (Trains, Systems, Operations and Maintenance) package for the Sydney Metro City & Southwest Project is a PPP contract which delivers rolling stock, signalling systems, central control, communications, radio, depot (including stabling) and operations control centre systems integration and testing and commissioning, as well as ongoing operations and maintenance of the extended line once completed.


  1. Sydney Metro West – Linewide / Trains & Signalling / Operations & Maintenance  packages.


These packages take in the full extent of railway fitout works across Metro West.   The scope of works includes our new stabling and maintenance facility; substations and service facilities; track and rail systems installation; tunnel fitout; rolling stock manufacture; and technology system installation and integration.  


The Delivery Director role will take responsibility for several of these elements in combination.  While the nature of the works themselves can be specialised, the Delivery Director role is about leading and driving a team to success while managing stakeholders and functional resources.

The primary purpose of these roles is to lead, direct and coordinate the delivery and management of relevant TSOM/TSMO Contracts within clearly defined scope, quality, time and cost constraints. The roles provide management, leadership, professional and technical guidance in the delivery phases of the works; monitors the work being conducted; controls processes to ensure contract compliance and manages processes to ensure that the works are delivered to the required standards and in accordance with safe work methods and risk management practices.


The Delivery Director will work closely as part of the Sydney Metro executive management to source, leverage and lead the expertise and specialist technical resources required for the successful delivery of designated major infrastructure.


As Delivery Director, you will be expected to:


  • Lead and manage the activities of an integrated Sydney Metro team and appointed delivery contractors in accordance with the Project’s Management Plan, including the planning, management and construction of activities, and ensure timelines are met, works are fit for purpose and comply with statutory and legislative requirements.
  • Develop detailed project budget and forecast cashflows / milestones from approved budget, recommend approval of costs and variations, monitor and control project costs, report on expenditure, final forecast cost and project risk and opportunities.
  • Facilitate approval of project specific quality, and environmental requirements, ensure implementation of approved quality plan/process complies with project plans and all relevant standards.
  • Manage, monitor and mitigate project risks through the risk management plan, provide high level advice to the Deputy Project Director in relation to risks and interdependencies, and contribute to monthly project reporting on progress, cost, quality, safety and environment issues to inform and support decision making.
  • Ensure and promote safety and safe-working via compliance with the system requirement, safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities within the Safety Management System.
  • Ensure the robustness of delivery and integration plans for the works and interfaces with other contractors and the various station contracts both from a technical and timing perspective.
  • Ensure the appropriate administration of contracts including the facilitation, review and approval of Contractor Management Plans to meet all contract requirements, contribute to tender assessment as required, including participating on tender evaluation committee and assist in the preparation of tender and contract documents.

About you


  • Demonstrated industry experience in the delivery of major $500million+ projects, with a record of achievement to time and cost.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (or equivalent) in engineering, construction, project management or transport infrastructure related fields.
  • Highly developed leadership, project planning and management expertise including leading multi-disciplinary project teams and all testing and commissioning activities.
  • Extensive knowledge of the structure of public and private transport industries in NSW, associated legislation and safety standards.
