Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. About the team


The role is a key member of the CST Team, one of the largest technology innovation functions in Australian Government.



The opportunity


The role will provide deep Quantum technology expertise and experience to guide Transport’s Quantum Technology journey and the work of its partners. This role will lead and build Quantum Technology capabilities and skills in Transport and ensure broader industry innovation is adopted. We are open to flexible working for this position, and encourage research papers for academia.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead Transport’s research and innovation in the field of quantum technology through collaborative partnerships with academic institutions and leading technology organisations and support the Director Quantum Technology to established and lead Transport’s Centre of Quantum Technology.
  • Provide leadership to support Transport’s vision to build organisational capability in Quantum technology through fostering research activities, guiding research training and review of results and to work with Transport teams to enable Quantum technology.
  • Ability to work at an internationally competitive level in quantum and act as a thought leader, remaining abreast of current and emerging planning issues and trends, including domestic and international best practice, innovative approaches and opportunities to support the Quantum Technology strategy
  • Work in partnership with the Director Quantum Technology to identify and define specific business use cases for Quantum Technology in collaboration with directors, managers, clients across the organisation and third-party stakeholders to approve common solutions that improve business value.
  • Act as a Quantum Ambassador for Transport and participate in and present scientific findings and papers at conferences, workshops and other forums
  • Manage cross-functional, cross-process and cross-provider integration providing the conduit between academia, industry and Transport

About you


You are a tertiary qualified, experienced quantum technology academic looking for an opportunity to build a world class quantum technology function:


  • You will have demonstrated specialism as a quantum technology professional.
  • You are an influencer and thought leader in delivering quantum technology advice and leading this back to academia.
  • You are experienced in providing vision, leadership and governance of a quantum strategy, in particular with a software focus.
  • You are experienced in creating, delivering and maintaining clear outcomes focused quantum frameworks across a large scale organisation.
  • You have strong experience reporting to Board level.
  • You have the ability to articulate complex concepts and put forward compelling arguments and rationales to all levels and types of audiences.
  • You are experienced in building, developing and leading high performing teams.
  • You embrace a delivery mindset as the cluster continues to transform.
