About the team

 

The Freight Branch is working to give freight a louder voice earlier by raising the profile of freight as a fundamental customer of the transport system to enable the safe, productive and sustainable movement of goods. We work in partnership across government and with industry to deliver improved freight outcomes for the people of NSW.

 

The Freight Policy and Regulatory Reform team leads a broad program of freight policy development and regulatory reform and will undertake research and provide industry expertise to support evidence-based policy decisions.

 

 

The opportunity


In this key role with Freight Branch as Director Policy, you will be responsible for proactively achieving endorsement of new and revised policy and regulatory reform in alignment with the TfNSW freight strategy, in addition to setting the policy agenda in NSW and nationally pursuant to the whole of NSW Government principles of better regulation.

 

You will be working in collaboration with partners across TfNSW and government to lead the role of Freight Branch as a stakeholder in internal and external policy and regulatory development.  You will promote alignment of whole-of-government and national policy with the objective of improving freight outcomes for our stakeholders, transport customers and communities.

About you

 

You are a senior executive with extensive policy experience gained within a similar large public sector organisation. You have solid experience leading, developing and mentoring high performing agile teams and have the ability to give strong direction to those around you.

 

You will be very strategic and proactive in your approach with the ability to work with, engage and influence other senior executives. You will have exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to build strong working relationships internally and externally.

 

 

What you will be involved in

 

If successful, you will work with the Freight Branch’s Policy and Regulatory Reform leadership team to identify opportunities to deliver on our strategic freight objectives with a policy response. You will also:

 

  • Lead agreement on policy solutions and delivery of new and revised policy in instances where the role and position of government will be critical in supporting industry to achieve freight objectives.

  • Provide strategic, evidence-based advice and support to the Director, Executive Director, Deputy Secretary, Secretary and Ministers on NSW across the cluster and on key national reforms and federal processes to achieve improved freight outcomes.

  • Working in collaboration with the freight leadership team to identify and prioritise freight outcomes requiring a policy response, develop problem definitions, research and identify policy solutions and develop and seek endorsement of strategically aligned policy interventions.

  • Drafting, consulting on and recommending new policy and policy revisions that are consistent with the current and future NSW and national reform agenda.

  • Leading the role of TfNSW in national and State policy and regulatory reform that is principally freight focused or most significantly impacts the movement of goods or plant and equipment.

  • Leading priority policy areas on the national agenda and oversight teams that develop and deliver implementation plans for agreed national reforms, including legislative changes, to ensure they deliver benefit for NSW and are designed to achieve objectives in alignment with NSW policy.

This is a permanent full-time Transport Senior Service TSSE1A level role offering an attractive remuneration package.
