Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. About the team


The role is a key member of the CST Team, one of the largest technology innovation functions in Australian Government.



The opportunity


The purpose of the role is to lead the Quantum Centre and maximise the business value from Quantum technology by identifying needs, prioritising and sequencing pilots and trials. Ensure broader skill and capability building and overseeing the program of work, commercials and partnerships


Key Accountabilities:

  • Build and lead Transport’s Centre of Quantum Technology and facilitate the application of Quantum technology into Transport and more broadly across the NSW Government
  • Work collaboratively with the Quantum Technology Fellow to bring the Quantum Technology roadmap to life by developing  innovative strategies and delivering research projects and pilot programs
  • Establish and lead the Centre of Quantum including management of operations, attendance at relevant steering committees, participating in workshops and consultation with relevant stakeholders or community members.
  • Provide support for the Fellow Quantum Technology to identify and define specific business use cases for Quantum Technology in collaboration with directors, managers, clients across the organisation and third-party stakeholders to approve common solutions that improve business value.
  • Drive and facilitate the on-time and effective delivery of projects in conjunction with Transport, academia, industry and other Government agencies, with a focus on effective planning and procurement evaluation, and strong governance and probity
  • Drive and promote Transport’s Quantum Technology strategy across government, stakeholders and industry to develop trusted relationships to deliver Transport’s vision to be a global leader in Transport Quantum technology
  • Build strong trusted relationships through daily interaction with Transport’s partners, industry and academia and build strong links back to Transport teams to create cohesive and collaborative cross-functional work groups.
  • Act as a thought leader, remaining abreast of current and emerging planning issues and trends, including domestic and international best practice, innovative approaches and opportunities to support the achievements of the business objectives.

About you


You are a tertiary qualified, experienced quantum technology Program Director looking for an opportunity to build a world class quantum technology function:


  • You are experienced in creating, delivering and maintaining clear program outcomes focus across a large scale organisation.
  • You are experienced in providing vision, leadership and governance as a program director, in particular with a quantum technology software focus.
  • You have the ability to navigate the different teams at Transport for NSW, particularly with the data team.
  • You have strong experience reporting to executive teams.
  • You have the ability to articulate complex concepts and put forward compelling arguments and rationales to all levels and types of audiences.
  • You are experienced in building, developing and leading high performing teams.
  • You embrace a project delivery mindset.
