Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. About the team


The Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division leads policy, strategy, standards, advice and support across safety, environment, sustainability, asset management and regulatory outcomes for customers, community and our people (including contractors).  SER provides ‘centres of excellence’ with a critical mass of expertise to support line accountability, facilitate consistency and provide assurance across transport. It also delivers a range of regulatory programs. 



The opportunity


The Manager Crisis Management is an excellent opportunity to lead and drive continuous improvement of crisis and incident management strategies, plans and procedures across the TfNSW to ensure preparedness and response to incidents is aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements. The role works across the TfNSW business to develop, test and monitor plans to ensure TfNSW can respond in the event of a crisis or emergency incident.


As Manager Crisis Management, you will be expected to:


  • Assist in the development and delivery of the crisis and incident management framework incorporating crisis and incident response planning, response and recovery protocols, crisis and incident response training and exercising.
  • Establish appropriate systems, resources, and communication protocols to support the management of crisis events by the Transport Executive and Divisional crisis response teams.
  • Support the activation and functioning of the Transport Leadership Group and Divisional crisis teams.
  • Research, analyse and evaluate current crisis and incident programs as well undertake crisis management after action reports and contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of the TfNSW programs and capabilities.
  • Assist to develop education, training and test cases, and scenarios to exercise, remediate and continuously build TfNSW crisis and incident management capability and performance.
  • Monitor, critically review, audit and report on the crisis and incident status and performance of critical business areas against TfNSW policies, procedures and objectives and the current ISO standards and AIIMS framework.
  • Represent the organisation on industry and regulatory crisis management working groups and committees.

About you


  • You will be happy to develop and continuously improve the crisis and incident planning and management system to deliver results which effectively support TfNSW objectives.
  • You must have relevant tertiary qualifications in a business discipline or equivalent industry experience of at least five years’ experience in crisis and incident management.
  • Have a strong understanding, knowledge of and experience in application of crisis and incident management principles, practices and methods of implementation in a large and complex organisation.
  • Have a proven ability to engage with stakeholders, lead and facilitate application of key management process to achieve positive organisational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated planning, project management skills and experience in delivery of organisation wide initiatives.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills and superior interpersonal skills, including facilitation, negotiation and consultation skills to influence key senior stakeholders.
  • Strong research, analytical and innovative problem solving skills in a changing and complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in achieving goals and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.



Salary and benefits


This position is a Transport Service Grade 9 ($138,670 - $155,309) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
