As a Manager Road Transport Safety within our expert Health and Safety Technical team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the development and implementation of tailored road safety practices across Sydney Metro's exceptional project portfolio.
You will be joining Sydney Metro’s Health and Safety Technical team, a collaborative and highly skilled group dedicated to driving excellence in health and safety. This multidisciplinary team works closely with project teams, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to ensure best practices in health and safety management across all stages of the project lifecycle. As Manager Road Transport Safety, you’ll contribute technical expertise while partnering with internal and external stakeholders to enhance compliance and safety outcomes across Sydney Metro’s portfolio.
As a key member within Sydney Metro's Health and Safety Technical team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the Sydney Metro’s safety culture and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards across our project portfolio.Reporting to the Senior Manager, Road Transport Safety, you will provide expert technical guidance to develop and enhance Sydney Metro’s safety management system, ensuring governance, compliance and alignment with NSW’s road safety strategies and regulatory requirements.
Your influence will be critical in driving compliance with all relevant road transport safety programs and requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture across our projects. This role will see you be a proactive and collaborative professional who can champion the delivery of road transport safety improvement programs and initiatives that align with Sydney Metro's strategic objectives and regulatory requirements. You will ensure ongoing compliance of projects with all relevant road safety legislation and standards, while proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks. You’ll work closely with project teams, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to achieve strategic objectives and promote a shared commitment to road safety. You will assist in implementing key improvement activities that enhance safety performance and support the timely and successful delivery of Sydney Metro's projects.
This is a fixed-term role for 24 months, requiring attendance at the Sydney Metro office and Project sites. Flexible work arrangements may be available following agreement with the Senior Manager, Road Transport Safety.

About you
We are seeking an experienced road transport safety professional with a passion for driving excellence and shaping the future of safety for Sydney Metro. As a technical expert, you possess a deep understanding and up-to-date knowledge of the road transport industry, regulations and practices alongside a proven ability to navigate complex safety challenges within large-scale infrastructure projects.
To excel in this role, you will have practical problem-solving skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels. You have a genuine passion for safety and a dedication to fostering a proactive safety culture and in-depth knowledge and experience in applying road transport safety legislation and best practices within high-risk industries, including transport and logistics. You have a proven ability to work collaboratively with varied teams, coupled with strong communication and stakeholder management skills as well as a demonstrated ability to identify, analyse, and mitigate safety risks, while proactively driving compliance and delivering impactful outcomes.
Specifically, you will possess:
- In-depth knowledge of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and practical application of such.
- Extensive experience in the road transport industry, ideally within NSW.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience that demonstrates your extensive capabilities.
