Senior Bus Policy Advisor (Up to 23 Months Temporary Opportunity)

In this role, you'll:
As part of a brand-new team, you'll be responsible for developing a new policy reform framework focused on bus transformation initiatives and safety in NSW. You'll work closely with senior management to ensure these reforms deliver on recommendations from the Bus Industry Taskforce and align with the NSW Government’s broader transport objectives. You'll collaborate with internal branches across SPER (Safety, Policy, Environment and Regulation) division to ensure alignment and effective delivery of initiatives, with a key focus on enhancing safety across the state.
You'll lead multiple components of the project, bringing together experts from various fields to gather insights, conduct research, and engage with stakeholders including industry. This includes drafting the scope of the policy reform program, creating a staged plan for policy development, and identifying opportunities for consultation. You'll also coordinate engagement with key government agencies, including NSW Treasury, Premiers Department, and Cabinet, and lead the development of consultation materials.
A key part of your role will be supporting the legislative process, liaising with the Parliamentary Counsel’s Office (PCO) to draft required legislation, preparing drafting instructions, and contributing to the development of the Bill Folder.

About you
You bring proven experience in developing and implementing policy reforms, preferably in the transport space, with a strong focus on meeting legislative obligations and supporting broader government objectives. You’re skilled at collaborating with diverse stakeholders, both internal and external using their input to shape meaningful and effective policy outcomes.
Your adaptability allows you to pivot easily when new challenges or changes arise, ensuring that your work continues to meet high standards and deadlines. You’re proactive in seeking out and reviewing relevant information, research, and policy updates, ensuring that you're always ahead of the curve in understanding the latest trends and developments. Your attention to detail ensures you’re consistently aware of legislative changes and emerging policy initiatives that impact your work.
You’re also an effective communicator, able to simplify complex information and share it clearly with stakeholders at all levels. Your time management and organisational abilities ensure you can handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining focus on priorities.
This team is currently enjoying a hybrid way of working in line with the base office located at 231 Elizabeth St Sydney and is evolving in line with Transport's policies for workplace presence.
