The opportunity

 

The Scientific Officer in the Technical Services Branch provides investigations, analyses, interpretations and advice for geotechnical, pavements and materials aspects related to infrastructure design, construction and maintenance in order to support the development and delivery of infrastructure projects. 

 

Key accountabilities

 

  • Contribute to the management of TfNSW technical risk by developing accurate reports, providing geotechnical, materials or pavements advice, design, specifications and contracts for infrastructure projects, seeking technical reviews and advice from internal and external experts, and applying policies, guidelines and specifications.
  • Contribute to the development and retention of geotechnical, pavements and materials capability in TfNSW by applying scientific principles of investigation, testing, analysis, interpretation and design, participating in technical and workforce development programs, undertaking training and attending external technical presentations.
  • Support technical standards and the informed purchaser role on geotechnical, materials or pavements advice by conducting investigations and testing, analysis, interpretation and reporting in accordance with technical standards and procedures, briefing or supervision of consultants and contractors, and assist with the development of technical procedures and methods.
  • Support TfNSW’s innovation program by adopting or contributing to new technologies and systems, adopting or contributing to process improvements and methods, contributing to technology development, monitoring or trial projects and participating in technical interchange.
  • Maintain reliable data gathering on variable terrain, access, traffic and weather conditions by planning, coordinating, logging, supervising and conducting field or laboratory investigations, testing, trials and monitoring, and by site mapping and observations.

About you

 

  • You will comply with WHS and environmental regulations and policies, ensuring that safety and environmental aspects of fieldwork are implemented and all regulations and policies are followed.
  • Contribute to the success of geotechnical project delivery by planning, coordinating, reviewing, collating and presenting multidisciplinary data.
  • Support the Technical Services Branch by complying with system requirements, keeping appropriate quality records for projects, cooperating in the use and maintenance of equipment and providing input to improvements to the system.

 

 

Salary and Benefits
