In this role, you'll:
Research, develop, and maintain strategic travel models, including the under-development Sydney Activity-Based Model (SAM), using the latest and most accurate data inputs. You will contribute to the design, development, and improvement of strategic transport and freight models to meet the current and emerging needs of Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
Develop transport models for major client requests in consultation with the Manager, and oversee contractors applying the models.
Enhance existing models, including land use and travel models developed or acquired by the branch, and validate outputs against reliable external data.
Lead the design and development of transport models, applying data science where relevant to improve forecasting techniques and scenario planning.
Contributing to the design and development of the SAM to meet the needs of TfNSW, enhancing the SAM proof-of-concept (PoC) model recently developed by TfNSW.
Improve modelling processes to ensure models are reusable, adaptable, and fit for various applications.
Stay informed on national and international trends in strategic modelling and apply innovations to enhance TfNSW’s modelling capabilities.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of TfNSW’s suite of strategic travel models.
This is a fixed-term full-time role till 31/05/2027 based at Macquarie Park office.

About you
• Tertiary qualifications in science, geography (spatial), or transport modelling, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong experience in developing strategic transport models and using relevant software such as EMME, along with programming skills in Python.
• Experience with activity-based modelling highly desirable.
• Proven ability to apply innovative modelling and data analytics techniques to improve transport forecasting and decision-making.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems and communicate solutions effectively across departments.
• Prior experience applying ActivitySim for use in Activity-Based Modelling across model development, application and interpretation highly desirable.
