Asset Manager - Light Rail

In this role, you'll:
Deliver asset strategies for light rail infrastructure and fleet performance with precision and purpose, seeing the bigger picture while making sure every detail counts, because reliable light rail services keep cities moving and communities connected.
You will develop and implement plans that optimise reliability and cost-effectiveness, manage technical assurance frameworks to meet compliance standards, and collaborate with operators and suppliers to align priorities.
You’ll tackle complex technical challenges, monitor performance, and drive continuous improvement spending time in the field to inspect assets and understand real-world conditions.
Your day-to-day will involve:
- Developing and delivering asset strategies for light rail vehicles, tracks, and depot facilities that optimise safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Managing technical assurance frameworks and ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Solving complex technical and operational challenges keeping services running and projects on track.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external operators to align priorities and deliver high quality asset plans.
- Monitoring supplier performance and driving continuous improvement across maintenance and lifecycle planning.
- Spending time in the field inspecting infrastructure, engaging with operators, and understanding real-world conditions.
This is a hands-on role where your decisions will directly influence the performance and safety of NSW’s light rail network.

About you
You’re an asset management professional who combines technical expertise with strategic thinking. You’re confident engaging with engineers, operators, and suppliers, and you know how to keep complex systems running smoothly.
You bring:
- Engineering qualifications.
- Experience in asset management, ideally within rail or light rail environments.
- Strong knowledge of technical assurance, compliance, and engineering standards.
- Skills in stakeholder engagement, planning, problem-solving, and contract management.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to work autonomously and suggest innovative solutions.
- Comfort working in outsourced delivery environments.
Mode-specific experience is highly valued:
- Understanding of light rail systems, depot operations, and associated infrastructure.
