In this role, you'll:


Work within NSW Maritime, providing day-to-day on water patrols, advice and management of navigational issues and vessel-related activities on assigned local waterways through education, liaison and enforcement ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures with both Recreational and Domestic Commercial vessels. You will also be required to provide assistance with mooring audits and mooring management as required.

The roles will be based at various locations and will require you to maintain flexibility and adaptability to provide assistance across the NSW Area. It would require you to work closely with other agencies and stakeholders to provide a high-profile presence in the local boating communities.

About you


You love being out on the water, are an experienced mariner and want to make a real difference in your local community. You are passionate about customer service, safety and education.   We are looking for flexible and proactive Boating Safety Officers that has a thorough understanding of boating safety initiatives in NSW and demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of the marine and environmental legislation relating to recreational and commercial boating. 

You will need to be comfortable working independently and keeping yourself motivated when operating away from your line managers. This role will see you working some weekends when our waterways are at their busiest. You will be joining a progressive organisation where you get to be a part of something bigger - safeguarding our waterways now and into the future and putting our customer at the centre of everything we do.

Essential requirements include:
•   Possession of a current motor vehicle (unrestricted) driver’s licence.
•   A Coxswains’ Certificate of Competency, or the ability to achieve a coxswains’ certificate within 6 months from letter of offer.
•   Demonstrated competency in small boat handling and extensive experience in boating, including launch and retrieval of trailer boats.
•   Demonstrated understanding of the regulations relating to recreational boating and domestic, commercial vessels in NSW and matters affecting water boating safety, moorings, navigation and environmental issues.

Boating Safety Officers operate in the following locations:
•   Greater Sydney - Sydney Harbour, Hawkesbury River Broken Bay, Port Hacking and Botany Bay
•   South Region – South Coast, Murray Inland
•   North Region – Far North Coast, Mid-North Coast, Hunter Inland

Please note that this advertisement is to create a State-wide Talent Pool which will be used to fill Boating Safety Officer positions throughout the state as they become available over the next 18 months. The salary for this position is from Grade MA5A - MA11A ($109,990-$146,200) per annum plus superannuation -depending on experience. This recruitment process will involve multiple recruitment stages, including a written task, video interview,online testing, face to face interview and a practical assessment onsite in Rozelle-Sydney – (Date tbc)
