Director Direct Procurement & Minor Construction
Sydney, NSW, AU, 2000
Lead the Future of Procurement at Transport for NSW
Transport for NSW is embarking on a bold Procurement Transformation Program — establishing a dedicated, centralised Procurement branch within our Finance, Technology & Commercial Division.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of procurement in NSW. As we implement a new operating model, you’ll be at the forefront of driving reform and innovation across all procurement functions at Transport for NSW — one of the largest procuring agencies in the country.
As Director Direct Procurement & Minor Construction, you will lead a high-performing team through this transformation, driving innovation, commercial excellence, and improved outcomes across the entire procurement lifecycle.
We’re looking for a self-motivated, independent leader who thrives on a challenge. Someone who brings energy and determination to complex environments and is excited by the opportunity to build, influence, and lead at scale.
In this pivotal role, you will provide strategic direction and centralised oversight of all procurement activities, policies, and processes related to minor construction and direct procurement.
Your leadership will directly contribute to delivering greater public value, strengthening governance, and achieving the outcomes that matter most to the people and communities of NSW.
In this role you’ll:
- Lead the end-to-end procurement of Transport’s minor construction and direct procurement goods and services — from material sourcing to high-value commercial contracts — ensuring value for money and compliance with legislative and policy frameworks.
- Develop and execute advanced sourcing strategies, category management frameworks, and supplier engagement plans that drive procurement quality, productivity, and performance.
- Build strong, collaborative partnerships across Divisions and Branches to align procurement with long-term organisational goals, budgets, and operational needs.
Champion sustainable, ethical, and socially responsible procurement — embedding these principles in all supplier and sourcing strategies. - Lead complex contract negotiations to secure optimal outcomes, minimise risk, and realise ongoing savings through commercial rigour and continuous improvement.
- Foster strong supplier relationships to unlock innovation, drive accountability, and create mutual value.
- Monitor market trends and emerging supplier capabilities to identify opportunities for strategic and transformative procurement initiatives.
- Serve as the go-to business partner and escalation point for complex procurement decisions, driving engagement and alignment at every level.
This is an ongoing Transport Senior Service Executive (1B) role. Please see the role description and Information Pack for more information
