Director Project Delivery Communications

Organisation/Entity:  Transport For NSW
Job category:  Senior Executive
Job location:

Sydney, NSW, AU, 2000

Job reference number:  100026
Employment type:  Permanent Full-Time
Salary range:  $0.0-$0.0

As Director, Project Delivery Communications, you’ll shape how we engage, inspire, and earn trust across communities as we deliver some of the most complex and high-impact transport projects, products and services in NSW.

You’ll lead from the heart of our newly established Strategy, Insights and Customer Experience branch—working at the intersection of infrastructure delivery, community voice, and strategic outcomes.

You’ll champion a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence, building an environment where teams thrive, partnerships grow, and our work reflects the voices of those we serve.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead the charge on communications and engagement for some of NSW’s most significant transport infrastructure projects and services in delivery —where what you say, and how you say it, matters.
  • Partner closely with senior leaders and delivery teams to ensure every interaction is strategic, inclusive, and impactful.
  • Act as the voice of the community, providing expert guidance on stakeholder issues and ensuring that engagement efforts are grounded in transparency and empathy.
  • Inspire and lead a high-performing team of engagement professionals, and act as a trusted strategic adviser to leaders across the organisation.
  • Build public trust by turning complex challenges into clear stories, helping communities understand the ‘why’ behind our decisions.
  • Work across diverse regions, communities, and cultures—especially Aboriginal communities—embedding culturally respectful engagement at every stage.

This is an ongoing Transport Senior Service Executive (1B) roles. Please see the role description and Information Pack Information Pack for more information.

About you

  • You’re a purpose-driven leader who sees beyond the project plan—and knows how to turn communication into connection and action.
  • You’re a strategic thinker who thrives in complexity—and knows how to lead with clarity, purpose, and heart.
  • You’ve worked on major infrastructure projects and know how to balance delivery imperatives with community expectations.
  • You’re a collaborative leader who understands how to navigate matrixed environments and build strong partnerships with internal teams and delivery contractors.
  • You’re confident managing high-impact, often sensitive stakeholder issues—and can provide clear, actionable advice that cuts through the noise.
  • You’re passionate about engagement that makes a difference—driving results that reflect community needs and build long-term trust.
  • You lead by example, creating a team culture that is inclusive, empowering, and committed to continual improvement.
  • You love working in a team that has each other’s backs, knows how to have a laugh, and celebrates the wins (big or small) together. Because doing great work is even better when you're doing it with great people.
