Join our Safety, Risk & Assurance branch which delivers support across all areas of Rail Safety, Assurance and Risk in accordance with Legislative and Regulatory requirements of a Rolling Stock Operator (RSO) and Rail Infrastructure Manager (RIM).
 


Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be an integral part of our Leadership Team. In this role you will be responsible for driving safe culture, workplace and work conditions for Sydney Trains’ workforce and passengers. You will also set the direction for the development and implementation of safety, risk and assurance frameworks and management accountabilities within Sydney Trains. 

 

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Working collaboratively with key stakeholders to deliver globally recognised, safe rail transport solutions through the provision of policy, strategy, standards and advice across all safety outcomes.
  • Championing a positive health and safety culture across Sydney Trains that enables leaders and our workforce to play their role in achieving safer outcomes for our people and passengers.
  • Developing frameworks and management systems that ensure Sydney Trains manages health and safety risks and meets our commitment to provide a safe workplace in line with the expectations of our people and the law.
  • Providing enablement, advisory and assurance services to our leaders.
  • Sponsoring development and deployment of enterprise wide contemporary and evidence-based safety programs.
  • Managing the mental health and well being of our employees.
  • Providing expert advice and support to the Executive to manage strategic safety risks.
  • Engaging with leaders, employee groups, regulators, industry and unions to foster safety positive relationships.

About you

 

You are a tertiary qualified, experienced Work, Health and Safety executive looking for an opportunity to build a world class safety environment within an organisation that is subject to high levels of public scrutiny.

 

  • You champion a customer-centric safety ethos.
  • You have demonstrated experience developing, leading, and driving safety strategy, frameworks and systems across a diverse and complex organisation.
  • You have strong experience building relationships and dealing with stakeholders of all levels and the ability to articulate complex concepts and put forward compelling arguments and rationales.
  • You are a thought leader in delivering safety and risk advice and have deep experience driving a safety culture throughout an organisation.
  • You bring deep experience leading and building team maturity and building a function into a human centred focused organisation.
  • You bring deep experience developing, implementing and leading assurance and governance frameworks and processes within a highly operational organisation.
  • You will have demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of building a safety culture within complex organisations and projects.
  • You bring strong experience managing the wellbeing and mental health of employees within a complex, operational organisation.
  • You are experienced in creating, delivering and maintaining clear outcomes focused safety frameworks across a large scale organisation.
