In this role, you'll:


Work as part of a team delivering expert legal services in safety and liability matters for Transport for NSW, including managing complex litigation and contentious legal matters, debt recovery and coronial inquests.


This role will see you provide legal advice and representation in relation to public liability issues, recoveries and inquests. You’ll work closely with external insurers and legal providers and attend court or NCAT appearances on behalf of the agency. This role offers opportunities to develop skills in delivering strategic advice, formulating defence strategies, advocacy and influencing risk management practices in a high-profile public sector environment.


You will play a key role in the resolution of liability claims and litigation in a challenging, high-volume environment, navigating complex stakeholder relationships and ensuring compliance with statutory and policy obligations.

About you


Your strong legal acumen, analytical skills, and stakeholder management experience, and litigation background will assist you to thrive in the role. You're recognised as a proactive legal professional, skilled at drafting and negotiating, and experienced in managing external counsel, handling insurance matters, and delivering practical solutions under pressure. You will ideally have at least 2 years post-qualified experience in public liability, with exposure to debt recovery and working with insurers. Additionally, you will have sound statutory interpretation and analytical skills, be proactive and able to effectively manage your workflow, have experience providing high quality written and verbal legal advice, and display proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
