Senior Manager Bus Contracts (Up to 24 Months Temporary Opportunity)

In this role, you'll:
Lead the delivery of 660 rural bus contracts across three regions in NSW - ensuring services are safe, reliable, integrated, and customer-focused. You'll use your experience as a Bus Contract Manager/Operational Manager to make a meaningful impact. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of public service and commercial delivery, managing contracts that directly affect communities across the state.

You’ll oversee the transition to a new, uplifted contract model and manage relationships with a wide range of operators from individual business owners to large multinational providers. Leading three dedicated contract teams, you’ll be responsible for the successful rollout, ongoing management, and continuous improvement of service delivery. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring staff, building capability, and embedding high performance standards across the teams.

The role involves managing complex stakeholder relationships and using data insights to drive continuous service improvements. It includes implementing robust processes and reporting mechanisms to support performance and change. With a strong focus on navigating political environments and understanding community impacts, the role plays a key part in shaping services that truly make a difference.

This is a temporary full-time hybrid role, available through to 30 July 2027. The position can be based near one of our key Transport for NSW hubs, such as Wollongong, Newcastle, or Sydney, with occasional travel required.

About you
You have a passion for public transport, service delivery, and driving outcomes that benefit passengers. With experience in bus operations, you bring proven expertise in contract delivery and team management. Your stakeholder engagement skills and deep understanding of government processes allow you to navigate complex, politically and commercially sensitive environments with confidence.

You have strong leadership capabilities and the ability to drive high performance across teams. Your excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, paired with highly developed communication abilities, enable you to simplify complex financial and commercial information and influence stakeholders at all levels. You bring sound business acumen, thrive in diverse settings, and collaborate effectively across teams and regions to lead meaningful initiatives.
