Sydney Metro are seeking a minimum of three Board Members to bring significant strategic vision, industry expertise and strong leadership to Sydney Metro’s performance and governance frameworks. You will work collectively with other Board Members to make key decisions and set the strategic direction of Sydney Metro. Board Members operate with the highest levels of integrity and are required to provide clarity to issues that need resolution. The Sydney Metro Board is a governing Board, and Board members must demonstrate governance experience, specifically as a non-executive director.

 

 

The Organisation

 

Sydney Metro is Australia's biggest public transport project and the first fully-automated metro rail network, connecting customers and transforming the way Sydney travels. Our new generation of driverless trains are fast, safe and reliable, and link with Sydney's existing public transport network to provide seamless journeys. Our 46 state of the art, fully accessible metro stations and precincts are designed to meet the evolving needs of our customers and communities.

 

Sydney Metro is progressively delivering a new rapid transport system for Greater Sydney. With the City and Northwest Metro lines already in operation, to be followed by the Southwest line in 2026, and construction continuing on the West and Western Sydney Airport lines, Sydney will enjoy a fully operational Metro network by 2032. 

 

 

The Role:


Board Members are required to be persons that will assist Sydney Metro in achieving its functions. All Board members will be assessed against the following criteria.

 

Board members must have possession of and significant industry experience in one or more of the following skillsets:

 

  • Infrastructure delivery
  • Rail operations
  • Property and place-making, including housing supply and development
  • Finance
  • Legal and commercial; specifically large, complex commercial contracts
  • Senior public sector experience and strong knowledge of government policies and processes.

 

Board members must demonstrate the following professional and personal attributes: 

 

  • Informed and independent judgement: provide wise counsel, to analyse and ask relevant questions at the strategic level, and to consider different perspectives and understand situations & problems, environments, cultural nuances by addressing underlying issues.
  • Trust and commitment: respect and openness for the views of others, encouraging open discussions and commitment to assist Sydney Metro achieving its strategic objectives.
  • Integrity: persons of the highest integrity and ethical standards who will actively uphold such standards in their decision-making.
  • Experience in and understanding of the regulatory and political landscapes and in navigating complex issues.
  • Registration with or ability to become registered with the NSW Government’s Audit and Risk Committee Prequalification Scheme.
